Tarakka bindige, written by mystic saint poet Purandaradas in Kannada, was one of the most popular songs we used to sing at our morning assembly in Rishi Valley School. Later, I found out that my Guru Sri Ramamoorthy Rao had composed the tune many years ago. People have been singing this tune without even knowing it is his. Originally composed in Raag Tilang, it has gone through many changes.

bindige-yodedare onde kaasu, taare bindigeya

Govinda vembo gunavulla neerige, taare bindigeya
Aavaava pariyali amruta paanakke taare bindigeya

Raama naama vembo rasavulla neerige, taare bindigeya
kaamini yerakude ekaantavaadenu taare bindigeya

Bindhumaadhavana ghattakke hoguve, taare bindigeya

O my sister bring the pot, will go to fetch water, do bring the pot.
if the pot breaks, it only costs a paise, do bring the pot.

Bring the pot for fetching water which has the quality called govinda
bring the pot for fetching water which has many qualities of elixir

Bring the pot for fetching water which has the taste called rAmanAma bring the pot so that I can spend private time with attractive girls.
